Neurology of Bend >> Gary D. Buchholz, M.D.
San Jose, CA is the birthplace and childhood home of Dr. Buchholz, who has practiced neurology in Bend since 1986. Early abilities led ultimately to a B.S. degree in mathematics from U.C. Davis in 1970. After a year or so of working for General Electric and studying advanced mathematics at Santa Clara University, a decision was made to seek an M.D. degree to be able to work with people as well as pursue science. Premed courses at U.C. Santa Barbara preceded medical school at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. There, after initially considering cardiology, a love of neurology developed. Neurology training was completed at U.C. Irvine in 1981. After stints in Sonora and Fresno, CA, the move to Bend was made to raise a family and develop a full neurology practice. Dr. Buchholz, board certified since 1983, has been faculty at two teaching institutions, teaching residents in internal medicine and family practice. He has delivered multiple grand round lectures/public forums including discussions of Parkinson’s Disease, Sleep Disorders, Stroke (Cerebrovascular Disorders), dementia (with emphasis on Alzheimer’s Disease), and ALS. For more than 25 years, Dr. Buchholz has cared for adult and pediatric neurology patients of all types including those with diseases mentioned above (areas of special interest/expertise) as well as those with epilepsy (another area of special interest), headaches/migraines, MS, tremor, dystonia, and other movement disorders, neck and back disorders and many other conditions. He has specific expertise using Botox in neurological conditions, performing Vagal Nerve Stimulator (VNS) programming for epilepsy, and performing Deep Brain Stimulator (DBS) programming for Parkinson’s Disease and tremors. |
