After completing his undergraduate work at U.C. Davis, Dr. Buchholz went on to do pre-med at UC Santa Barbara and Medical School at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. After initially considering cardiology, a love of neurology developed and he proceeded to complete his Neurology training at UC Irvine in 1981. He became Board Certified in 1983 and after stints in Sonora and Fresno CA Dr. Buchholz made the decision to develop a full neurology practice in Bend, OR.

Dr Buchholz has cared for adult and pediatric neurology patients of all types for more than 25 years. In addition to the full spectrum of Neurological conditions he also has specific expertise in using Botox in neurological conditions, performing Vagal Nerve Stimulator (VNS) programming for epilepsy, and performing Deep Brain Stimulator (DBS) programming for Parkinson's Disease and tremors.

Dr. Ireland graduated, Magna Cum Laude, from University of Oregon Health Sciences Center.  His success as a medical student paved the way for further training at the best residency training programs in the world; an Internal Medicine residency at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, during which he served as a Clinical Fellow in Medicine at Harvard Medical School, and a residency in Neurology at the University of California San Francisco.  He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Neurology. 

Dr. Ireland has practiced in Central Oregon since 1992.  He was Medical Staff President at St. Charles Medical in 2000.  He enjoys all aspects of his practice and has special interest in treatment of multiple sclerosis and headaches.  He is passionate in his commitment to provide all his patients the highest quality of neurological care available anywhere.

Outside of work, Dr. Ireland and his family enjoy skiing, cycling, hiking, tennis and breeding, training, and showing Morgan and Peruvian Horses.
